Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... At the Moment.
The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would emerge as a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
Now that Season 1 of the popular series wrapping up—and a second season officially in the works—Gilligan and his team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.
About the Tremendous Viewer Reception
One could easily to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to ignore the noise.
“The experience is akin to force fed something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it from others, and that's on purpose. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”
“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.
The Big Question: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?
Considering the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… in a way.
“We've developed some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”
On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.
“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”
Of course, why not reference the legendary finales?
“I want Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
