The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
