The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:

  • Each team has just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else details all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
