The former Liverpool manager states coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing near-decade reign which brought continental glory and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won England's top flight under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would welcome the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with his interviewer: “I declared I will never coach another team in England. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, that means the choice could be mine down the line, who knows. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations must arise to tempt his return to the touchline, Klopp admitted he isn't eager toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing under bad weather through long matches; I'm glad to skip press conferences multiple times weekly or constant media duties each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits in the building. I still have the captain's chuckle in my ear to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly for his successor, acknowledging his role for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated four in a row in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the idea it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect on Liverpool. The forward lost his life in a vehicle collision together with his sibling recently.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the dressing room without him in it. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it as an excuse but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this emotionally is challenging. Unbearable.”
