Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Series on BBC
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six drew the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
