Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
