Donald Trump Hikes Duties on Canada's Imports Following Reagan Commercial

President Donald Trump has declared he is increasing duties on products brought in from Canadian sources after the province of Ontario broadcast an anti-tariff commercial using late President Reagan.

In a online update on Saturday, Donald Trump called the advert a "deception" and criticized Canada's leaders for not taking down it before the MLB finals.

"Because of their significant distortion of the reality, and unfriendly action, I am raising the Tariff on Canada by 10 percent in addition to what they are currently paying now," he stated.

After Trump on last Thursday pulled out of commercial discussions with Canada, the Doug Ford said he would remove the advertisement.

The Province Position

Reagan Commercial Particulars

The commercial, which was funded by the provincial government, cites ex-President Ronald Reagan, a conservative icon and figure of American conservatism, remarking duties "hurt American citizens".

The advertisement includes segments from a 1987-era radio speech that focused on global commerce.

The Foundation, which is tasked with preserving the late president's memory, had criticised the advertisement for using "selective" recordings and said it distorted the former president's address. It also said the Ontario government had not requested permission to use it.

Ongoing Disputes

In his message on social media on Saturday, Trump claimed that the advert should have been removed earlier.

"Their Advertisement was to be taken down RIGHT AWAY, but they allowed it to air yesterday during the baseball championship, aware that it was a DECEPTION," he posted, while flying to Southeast Asia.

Ford had before vowed to run the Ronald Reagan advert in each GOP-controlled district in the United States.

Both the President and Mark Carney will be attending the Southeast Asian summit in Malaysia, but Trump informed reporters joining him aboard the presidential plane that he does not have any "desire" of meeting with his Canada's leader during the trip.

In his update, the President additionally alleged Canada of attempting to affect an upcoming US Supreme Court case which could terminate his whole import duty program.

The legal matter, to be reviewed by the Supreme Court soon, will determine whether the import taxes are legal.

On Thursday, Donald Trump also lashed out, stating that the commercial was designed to "meddle" with "THE MOST IMPORTANT CASE EVER"

World Series Link

The advertisement is not the exclusive way that the region – location of the Blue Jays – is using the MLB finals as a stage to condemn Trump's duties.

In a video shared on Friday, the Premier and Governor the Governor jokingly agreed on stakes about which club would win the series.

Each official consistently teased about tariffs in the video, with the Premier promising to provide Newsom a tin of maple syrup if the LA Dodgers win.

"The duty might charge me a few extra bucks at the border currently, but it'll be worth it," he stated.

In response, the Governor requested Doug Ford to continue permitting American-produced beverages to be sold in Ontario alcohol shops, and vowed to provide "the state's championship-worthy wine" if the Blue Jays succeed.

They ended their dialogue each saying: "Here's to a fantastic World Series, and a duty-free alliance between Ontario and the state."
