A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
